Snowmobiling

  • More than 350 miles of groomed trails across Utah and Idaho, late November through April. The Logan Canyon system (about 180 miles) includes trails reached right from Garden City and connects into Idaho through Franklin Basin and Beaver Creek. Rentals: Epic Recreation in Garden City, (435) 946-3742, and its sister Beaver Creek Lodge in Logan Canyon. Utah and Idaho both require snowmobile registration, including out-of-state machines. Bear Lake Monster Winterfest

  • Late January or early February at the marina across the street. 2026 brought the Monster Plunge, a cardboard boat regatta, a chili cook-off, a 5K, a free winter sports day and closing fireworks. Registration for 2027 opens November 28, 2026. Winterfest

Cisco dipnetting

  • In late January the Bonneville cisco, a fish found only in Bear Lake, spawn near shore. When conditions allow, anglers dipnet them from shore near the marina or at Cisco Beach. It depends on the weather, so check Utah DWR first.

Snow play

  • Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and tubing in Logan Canyon; Epic Recreation rents snowshoes, skis and tubes.

A note about ice

  • The lake does not freeze every winter, so ice fishing is never guaranteed.
