Salt Lake City to Bear Lake: the easy canyon drive
By Adam and Ashley, owners of Bear Lake Lookout

For us, Bear Lake has always been about how close it is. It is the lake getaway you can reach after work on a Friday from the Wasatch Front.
- From Salt Lake City International Airport it is about 125 miles, roughly two and a half to three hours.
- From downtown Salt Lake City, plan on about two and a half hours.
- From Logan it is about 40 miles, about an hour, and that hour is the best part: US-89 through Logan Canyon, over Bear Lake Summit at around 7,800 feet, and then the first look at the water below.
- Worth a stop: the Limber Pine Nature Trail at Bear Lake Summit, a 1.34 mile loop with a lake overlook.
- In winter, check road conditions before you go and carry chains or use snow tires.
When you arrive, the condo sits across the street from the state marina, so you can be on the water the next morning. See Getting Here for the full drive time table.
